My first exposure to the concept of branding
In the mid 2000’s I was self employed and working as a network engineer, fixing problems for small businesses and installing equipment in offices.
Being asked to visit the offices of manufacturers in the area made me feel kinda special!
I was just a kid but mingling with the movers and the shakers was a lot of fun. I got to see how everything was made.
I was on my knees under a desk, plugging a cable into a computer and was asked by my client to meet their marketing consultant, who had just walked in.
To this day I still remember the gentleman and often think about his story.
He arrived in a bright green Lamborghini, and wore a suit with a bright green lining, which was visible as he threw his arms around during conversation. My instant reaction was envy, and to be honest I thought the paint job was a little distasteful and vomit-inducing!
His company name had the word ‘green’ in it and his business cards were minimal, black and featured discreet green foil edges. After listening to him talk about things he had recently done to help his client, I became fascinated with branding and marketing.
First impressions matter, and having your brand in order can make a big impact.
